Twin Hills Mine

The Twin Hills Silver Mine is located 10kms east of the township of Texas in South East Queensland.

Texas Silver Mines Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Macmin Silver Ltd (Macmin) commenced exploration on the Texas Silver Project in 1994. Successful exploration by the company and its joint venture partner, Hunter Exploration N.L. (Hunter) of Perth in the period 1994-1998 delineated significant silver mineralisation. Macmin re-acquired Hunter's interest in 1998 and after further extensive drilling, completed the initial Twin Hills feasibility study at the end of 2000.

Tennent Isokangas Pty Ltd (TIP) calculated an overall Indicated/Measured Resource of 6.68mt at 64g/t Silver and 0.11g/t Gold for 15.05 M oz of silver equivalent.

Further drilling in 2001/2002 upgraded the resource as follows:

Million Ounces of Silver Equivalent
Measured Indicated Inferred Total
7.37 13.15 10.86 31.38

Mining and metallurgical studies demonstrated that mining would be carried out by open-pit with ore crushed to minus 4mm, prior to being stacked on heaps. The heaps would be irrigated with a cyanide solution to leach silver into the solution (pregnant liquor solution – PLS). The PLS is then pumped through an electrowinning plant (EM-EW) to recover a high grade silver powder.

In March 2004 the company decided to commit to and raise funds to develop the Twin Hills Silver Mine, as the international price for silver started to increase.

In 2005, site clearance began in conjunction with staff recruitment and training. Overburden removal, crushing plant installation and electrowinning plant construction were carried out during 2006. Mining began in early 2007, in conjunction with the commissioning of the processing circuit and production of the first silver powder. Fine tuning of the crushing and electrowinning plants continued throughout 2007.
